Transformational Coaching

Stuck? Frustrated? Experiencing burnout? Can’t see the wood for the trees?

I know what that feels like. Let’s face it, we all do because rare is the person whose life pans out exactly the way they anticipated.

Whether at work or at home, most of us at some point will find ourselves having to navigate uncharted territories.

The one thing in life we can be absolutely sure about is that nothing stays the same. Circumstances change. Other people change. We change. This state of flux can be terrifying, exhausting and stressful. If we can remain curious and open, it can also be an incredible opportunity to re-evaluate our priorities and take a different fork in the road.

Transformational Coaching is about walking alongside you as you tread these new roads. Together, we investigate where you’re at right now, explore what’s working and where change feels overdue and then work out a strategy and a road map.

Format

We’ll have an initial free 30-minute phone conversation to make sure that coaching is right for you and that I am the right coach for you. I’ll explain my approach and then you can decide if you’d like to go ahead. The minimum number of sessions is 3 across a 6-week period.

Sessions will typically be fortnightly or monthly although this is flexible. Our coaching conversations will last for 1-hour, by phone or skype/zoom. Face-to-face sessions can be arranged either in Colchester (North Essex) or London.

What Can I Expect In Our Coaching Conversation?

To be heard:

Coaching is about appreciative listening. It’s a space for you to have a conversation with yourself, facilitated by me. I give you space and time to explore your values, priorities, dreams and goals. There’s no pressure to come up with the ‘right’ answer or to find a goal before you’re ready. You might just need time to truly evaluate where you are and to think out loud through your options. You already have the answers within. My job as your coach is to hold a mirror up to you, so you can better see and reflect upon your ideas and connect with your deep intuition.

To be challenged:

Sometimes we get so stuck in the well-worn groove of our own stories that it’s hard to hear anything else or imagine that things could be any other way. We remain frustrated and defeated by life, rather than seeing it for what it really is, a series of unique moments unfolding before us. Coaching isn’t about giving you answers or telling you what to do. It’s about asking questions that help you to pause and think and in so doing, to find your own answers. The right question asked at the right time can be truly transformational, helping to jog you out of the well-worn groove. You will find that you already have all of the resources you need to make the changes you want to make.

To be nurtured:

Holding space is one of the greatest gifts we can offer another human. Being seen, heard and taken seriously, without judgement, opinion or jeopardy can be a nurturing,  liberating and life-affirming experience. As your coach, I create a safe space where you can be exactly who you are, right now, free to explore, question and dream.

What Coaching Isn’t

It’s important to understand that coaching isn’t psychotherapy or counselling. We won’t talk about your childhood or your deep motivations because coaching is about the here and now – it’s a powerful conversation that supports you in mapping the next part of your journey. If you’re struggling with your mental health at the moment, for whatever reason, and need time to deeply explore what’s going on for you, then psychotherapy or counselling might be a more appropriate place for you right now. Coaching is for when you’re ready to think about your next steps and need some support with figuring them out. From my own experience, I have found both therapy and coaching to be enriching, fulfilling and powerfully valuable for very different reasons. During our introductory phone call, I’ll talk about this a bit more, so that you can make the decision that’s right for you.

Working with Fiona has meant that I am being supported to carve out time to deeply reflect on my past and my future, in a way that is structured and challenging. Been great to have tools to frame the thinking – great provocations which I can’t hide from.

I left the session feeling so much clearer and more confident than I did when we started. You were sensitive to my emotional state and gave me time to think and reflect. I didn’t feel pressured, in fact, the opposite, I felt completely calm and comfortable with both the content and delivery of your questions. The environment was perfect and you retained a calming thoughtful approach throughout. You are a great listener and seemed to ask the right questions next, each time. I have been reflecting on topics we discussed and trying to use them to make positive changes in my approach to a big lifestyle change.

It was very helpful to have a dedicated space that was made available to me in order to share my career concerns.  Fi provides a safe, non-judgemental space which allowed me to access a deeper understanding of my career aims and needs.  This has had a positive effect on my work and how I see my career in the present and the future. Being able to visualise my career and its future potential has certainly helped it progress in the present.
